GenNext Volunteers at The Chilly Open

Chilly open 1The Westerville Sunrise Rotary Club organizes and runs The Chilly Open at The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium to raise money and awareness for children's charities such as The Children's Hunger Alliance, Nationwide Children's Hospital, St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, and The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Kroger, Papa Johns Pizza, 92.3 WCOL, Mount Carmel, and Central Ohio Primary Care are just some of the sponsors who make the event possible. Food venders such as Winking Lizard Tavern, Polaris Grill, City Barbeque, and Bon Vie Bistro provide samples of their food for free. Country singer Keith Anderson, WBNS 10TV’s Dom Tiberi and 92.3 WCOL’s Woody Johnson entertain and donate their time; all proceeds go to children’s charities.

GenNext was just one of the volunteer groups who contributed at the Chilly Open. This year we helped in providing beverages. Fountain beverages are provided for anyone, which GenNext volunteers helped stock, in addition to organizing beer and wine distribution for those of age. Volunteers were encouraged to explore the rest of the zoo before or after their shift. Volunteering at the Chilly Open is a fun, delicious, and entertaining way to help children’s charities and meet new people.

Happy New Year GenNext!

Happy New Year volunteers! Have you made a new year's resolution to spend more time volunteering in 2014?  If not, you should!  According to the Volunteering and Civic Life in America report 29% of Columbus residents volunteer, ranking us 19th among 51 comprable metropolitan areas.  Last year residents gave nearly 50 million hours of service!  That's great, but there is still plenty of work to be done, so make sure to add attending GenNext Service projects to your resolution list for 2014!

Your Steering Committee has several great events lined up.  So gather you friends and family and get to an event soon!

Thank You for Giving
